Voters Question Quality and Safety of Supplied Water

Water delivered to polling stations during Zimbabwe’s by-elections has come under scrutiny after civic observers reported concerns over potability and hygiene. According to MIHR, water was delivered late, stored in bin containers and old gallons, and in some cases left unreplenished throughout the day.

Polling officials hesitated to drink the water, citing unclean containers and murky origins. With limited options, many resorted to bringing bottled water from home or buying it on-site—raising equity and safety issues.

MIHR is advocating for regulated water sourcing, better containers, and clearer quality assurance practices by local authorities and ZEC.
