Civic observers have sounded the alarm on severely inadequate toilet facilities at tent-based polling stations across Bulawayo. A Matabeleland Institute for Human Rights (MIHR) report revealed that 100% of observed mobile toilet stations had only one toilet, shared by an average of 13–18 polling officials—and sometimes the public.
In 28% of cases, two polling stations shared a single unit, raising concerns about hygiene, gender dignity, and health risks during a nationwide cholera outbreak.
Observers urged ZEC to provide a minimum of two sex-separated toilets per station and called for improved sanitation standards in all future elections.
